Kidney Cancer Clinical Trial
SAMURAI Trial
This SAMURAI Trial or NRG-GU012 is for patients with metastatic kidney cancer. Metastatic kidney cancer is when the cancer spreads from the kidney to other parts of the body.
The usual treatment includes immunotherapy and antiangiogenic agents. Immunotherapy is a medication that boosts your immune system to fight cancer, given through an infusion. Antiangiogenic medications, taken as pills, stop blood vessel formation around the tumor, slowing its growth. Surgery to remove the kidney may be recommended, but its benefits in patients receiving immunotherapy are uncertain.
Some patients can't have surgery due to tumor size or other health issues. For these cases, minimally invasive external beam radiation therapy may be used to treat kidney cancer.
